Nam is belief in someone or some concept that is absolutely true. i.e. hukam.
Satguru can give hukam but also you can tune into internal Guru / God / Ever present saint / Hari to get naam as well.
You can be present with the Guru by constantly focusing/thinking/realizing him through simran or better yet being in sangat ie Gurdwara or a similar place where truth is taught which can give you strong glimpses of Guru with less effort.
